A free Copilot Money alternative that doesn't connect to your bank
Copilot Money is a subscription app that links your accounts and sorts your transactions for you. Pocket PnL goes the other way. It's a free iPhone tracker where you log entries yourself. Nothing connects to a bank, and your data stays on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.
What each app is built for
Copilot Money connects to more than 16,000 US financial institutions and imports your transactions. Its Copilot Intelligence sorts them into categories and learns your habits over time. Around that you get budgets, a list of your subscriptions and recurring charges, your investment holdings and your net worth across every account. You can also add transactions by hand. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and the web and works with US-based accounts only. It's a subscription, billed monthly or yearly, with a one-month free trial and no free tier, and Copilot says it never sells your financial data or shows you ads.
Pocket PnL does less. You record each income and expense yourself, and the app turns those entries into a calendar, stats by tag and by card, and a net worth figure that starts from one number you enter. Nothing is imported and no account is linked.
Reasons to stay where you are
Copilot is built around automatic tracking. Keep it if you want:
- every card and account imported without typing anything
- investment holdings followed next to your spending
- budgets for each category
- the same data on a Mac, an iPad or the web
Pocket PnL does none of those things, and it won't feel like an upgrade if they're why you pay.
Reasons to try something different
- You'd rather not give a bank login to any app, or you want fewer companies holding your purchase history.
- Some of your money isn't in a US account. Pocket PnL works with any home currency and converts entries from 31 currencies.
- You want to stop paying for tracking. Pocket PnL is free to log, and Pro, which adds receipts, has a one-time price.
- You notice your spending more when you type each purchase in yourself.
How logging works
- Tap minus or plus, type the amount, and add a tag or a card if you want.
- Say or type a sentence like "spent 24 on groceries" with Quick Add. If the sentence contains the name of one of your tags, that tag is picked for you, and you check the draft before saving.
- Scan a receipt to fill in the total, store, date and payment method. It suggests one of your own tags from the store or from what you logged there before. Your first 5 receipts are free.
- Let recurring entries handle rent, pay and subscriptions.
- Log an expense with Siri, or start one from a Home Screen widget.
Entries save on your iPhone first, so the app works offline, and sync through your private iCloud database. The developer has no server holding your data. There's more on why in tracking spending without a bank login.

Questions
Does Pocket PnL categorize transactions for me?
There's no bank feed for it to sort. When you use Quick Add or scan a receipt, it suggests one of your own tags if the words or the store match, and you confirm it before saving.
Can I import my Copilot Money data?
No. Pocket PnL doesn't import from other apps or bank files, so it starts on the day you install it. Enter your net worth once to begin from an accurate figure.
Which devices does it run on?
Pocket PnL is an iPhone app and needs iOS 17 or later. There's no Android or web version.
Is it really free?
Logging, stats, net worth, iCloud sync and CSV export are free with no ads and no time limit. Pro adds receipt scanning after your first 5 receipts, plus sharing entries as images, for $29.99 once or $9.99 a year.
