A free Mint alternative that never links to your bank
Mint shut down in March 2024, and Intuit pointed its users to Credit Karma. If you'd rather not connect your bank to an app this time, Pocket PnL is a free iPhone tracker for income and spending that you fill in yourself. There's no account to create and no ads.
What happened
At the end of October 2023, Intuit said Mint was going away and would carry on as part of Credit Karma, another Intuit product. Mint closed on March 23, 2024. Its old web address now says it has been "reimagined on Credit Karma." Credit Karma shows your transactions, spending and net worth from the accounts you connect, though when the switch happened it didn't have Mint's monthly budgets.
If you want your accounts to update themselves
Mint pulled your bank, card, investment and loan accounts into one place and kept their transactions up to date for you. If that's what you miss, Credit Karma is the replacement Intuit built, and it's free to sign up. Other bank-linked budgeting apps do the same job. Pocket PnL never connects to a bank and doesn't import statements, so if automatic imports matter most to you, it's the wrong replacement.
How Pocket PnL works
Pocket PnL is a record you keep yourself, and adding to it takes a few seconds:
- Tap minus or plus and type the amount. A note, a tag and a card are optional.
- Say or type a sentence with Quick Add, like "spent 24 on groceries", then check the draft and save it.
- Scan a receipt to fill in the total, store, date and payment method. Your first 5 receipts are free, and after that scanning is part of Pro.
- Set up recurring entries once for rent, pay and subscriptions, and the app adds them on the day.
Those entries feed a calendar and stats by tag and by card, a net worth figure that moves as you log, and a CSV export for when you want everything in a spreadsheet. Entries save on your iPhone first and sync through your own iCloud. The developer has no server holding them. There's more on that in tracking spending without a bank login.
What you give up
- Nothing arrives by itself. An entry exists only when you log it or a recurring rule adds it.
- There are no budgets. You can see what each tag and card cost you, but you can't set a monthly limit for a category.
- Your old history stays where you saved it. Pocket PnL has no import, so it starts on the day you install it.
- It's an iPhone app only, with no web or Android version.

Questions
Is Pocket PnL free, like Mint was?
Logging, stats, net worth, iCloud sync and CSV export are free with no time limit and no ads. Pro costs $29.99 once or $9.99 a year and adds receipt scanning after your first 5 receipts, plus sharing entries as images.
Can I import my Mint transactions?
No. Pocket PnL doesn't import from other apps or from bank files. To start from an accurate figure anyway, enter your net worth on one date, and every entry after that keeps it current.
Can I set a budget for each category?
No. Pocket PnL shows what you spent by tag and by card for any week, month or year, and the calendar shows each day's net, but it has no budgets or spending limits.
Does it work on Android or the web?
No. Pocket PnL is an iPhone app and needs iOS 17 or later.
